The short leaf Gayfeather, commonly referred to as the short or fine leaf blazing star, is a member of the Asteraceae (Aster) family. With long tufts of lavender flower heads, the drought tolerant perennial prefers full sun exposure and well-drained sandy soils. Growing to a height of 3 feet, the Gayfeather, blooming between summer to early winter, attracts a variety of wildlife including butterflies.
