Liatris tenuifolia – Short Leaf Gay Feather

The short leaf Gayfeather, commonly referred to as the short or fine leaf blazing star, is a member of the Asteraceae (Aster) family.  With long tufts of lavender flower heads, the drought tolerant perennial prefers full sun exposure and well-drained sandy soils.  Growing to a height of 3 feet, the Gayfeather, blooming between summer to early winter, attracts a variety of wildlife including butterflies.
